I put a vase on it, then later discovered the ring.

    Method 1:
Dip a small piece of cheesecloth in hot water to
which two to three drops of household ammonia have been
added. Wring cloth out tightly and rub spot lightly.
    Method 2:
Rub spot lightly with a soft lintless cloth moistened
with camphorated oil. Wipe immediately using a clean
    cloth.
    Method 3:
Rub with paste wax and 4/0 (very fine) steel wool.

Well, you won’t do that again. Homer Formby’s refinisher. Rub it in where the ring is. Great stuff. If it didn’t completely take off the finish, try toothpaste.

sand it lightly and then go over it with the mini wax

This sounds crazy but toothpaste. I think it is a certain one but try what you got. Which ever one it is, I used it on a coffee table and it actually worked. Go figure.
