every time Ive tried it says, email connection failed. There is nothing in the wee booklet to let me know why that is. Any ideas.

You need to get your configuration settings for your phone. Contact your network provider, via your mobile and they will be able to give you the email settings, plus any other settings that may be missing, such as MMS (picture messages) and internet settings.
